FITTING A TOW BAR TO YOUR CURRENT CAR
My car has tow bar prep
When your car was built, ‘Tow Bar Preparation’, like Metallic Paint, may have been an optional extra you had fitted. ‘Tow Bar Preparation’ includes all the necessary adjustments that your car will need come the day that you need to have a tow bar fitted. These adjustments may just be an upgraded wiring and electrical system, or it could also include up rated radiators and cooling hoses so that your car can cope with the additional strain of towing a trailer or caravan.
If your car has had ‘Tow Bar Preparation’ fitted, then the only additional changes your car needs, is to have the rear valance changed and switch (where applicable) fitted – along side the all important tow bar its self.

My car does not have tow bar prep
If you have checked, and your car has not had ‘Tow Bar Preparation’ fitted as part of the vehicle build, you may need to have additional parts of your car upgraded retrospectively in order to fit a tow bar.
Modern cars are built with little tolerance for engine temperature, so it is important to make sure any additional strain on the engine has been accounted for. This means that as part of the process of retrospectively fitting a tow bar to your car, your car may need an upgraded cooling system fitted, alongside upgrades to the electrical system for the power required for the trailer.
The final part of the process is to fit the new rear valance, the switch (if required) and of course, the tow bar and power adapter to the rear of your car.
