Evolution of the SKODA Octavia vRS

July 26, 2017

The SKODA Octavia has been in production since 1996 but things changed in 2001 with the launch of the SKODA Octavia vRS MK1 (Top left picture) – a performance version powered by the 1.8 turbocharged engine complete with 180PS and a 0-62mph time of less than 8.0 seconds. The vRS model easily stood out from the standard Octavia with subtle extras such as chunkier bumpers, a rear tailgate spoiler, chrome exhausts and unique alloy wheels. Not only was the exterior changed but so was the Interior. SKODA added vRS sports style seats which had grey inserts, a leather steering wheel and gear knob.

In 2005 SKODA added the SKODA Octavia vRS Estate to the sports range. This allowed people to combine the ability of the hot hatch with the ability of the robust estate version of the Octavia.

A year later in 2006 and SKODA introduced the MK2 Octavia to the market which also included a vRS model (Top right picture). This version of the SKODA vRS was the new shaped Octavia with the added sporty prowess of the vRS. SKODA had improved the statistics of the popular MK1 version and made into something even better. In August 2011, a special SKODA Octavia vRS hit the world record on the American Bonneville Speedway and became the fastest car in the world with an up to 2.0 engine, when it hit a top speed of 227 mph.

In February 2013 SKODA released the MK3 Octavia and once again they had improved the hot hatch to gain even better performance stats with the 2.0 petrol 216ps reaching 0-60 in 6.6 secs. However, the stand out change SKODA made for this model of the vRS was that they bought out the SKODA Octavia vRS 230 (Bottom left picture). This engine change was a 2.0 petrol that had a massive 230ps, making an improvement to its already impressive stats.

In early 2017 SKODA released the best Octavia vRS yet! With more choice in body styles and engines than ever SKODA have certainly kept up with their tradition of only improving the ever better SKODA Octavia vRS. With the 2017 Octavia vRS (Bottom right picture) they have managed to produce an even quicker and more powerful engine with a very impressive 245ps. Available in manual and DSG transmission this 2.0 245ps engine starts at £27, 595. You get all the usual sporty extras like the Rear spoiler, chrome exhaust, choice of alloy wheels, door sill strips, performance mode select and sports steering wheel. Which all these features add to the sports driving experience and come together to create a brilliant one at that. However, with this new model of vRS you can add extras like the vRS Alcantara upholstery including heated front seats (Pictured below), providing extra grip and enhanced comfort, these sports seats feature distinctive red or grey double stitching. But the stand out option is the Black Design Package Plus which enhances the sporty appeal of the vRS even further with 19” Xtreme alloy wheels, black external mirrors and cornering front fog lights with black surround.
